Fair Usage Policy

Purpose of this policy

This Fair Usage Policy sets out how we expect our data plans, including plans marketed as unlimited, to be used. It exists to keep the network fair and reliable for every traveller sharing it, not just those on OneSim. It complements our Terms and Conditions, and where the two overlap, both apply together.

Our plans are built for ordinary personal travel use: browsing, messaging, maps, streaming, email and similar everyday activity while you are away from home. They are not designed to replace a fixed broadband connection, run a business’s primary connectivity, or support heavy, continuous, high-volume data use.

What counts as fair use

Fair use covers the kind of data activity a typical traveller would generate on a single personal device: web browsing, social media, navigation, messaging apps, video calls, and streaming music or video for personal enjoyment. This is the activity our plans, including unlimited ones, are priced and built around.

Unlimited plans and network management

Where a plan is described as unlimited, this refers to the removal of a fixed data cap, not a guarantee of unrestricted, uncapped speed at all times. Our local network partners at each destination may manage the network to keep it usable for everyone on it. On unlimited plans, this can mean that speeds are reduced after a certain amount of data has been used in a day, with normal speeds typically resuming the following day. Exact thresholds and speed levels are set by the local network partner and may vary by destination, so we do not publish fixed figures; if this matters for how you plan to use your plan, please get in touch before you buy.

Uses that are not permitted

The following are outside the scope of fair use on any OneSim plan, unlimited or otherwise:

  • Reselling, sharing commercially, or otherwise redistributing the data plan to third parties
  • Tethering or hotspot use in a way that is excessive, sustained, or clearly intended to serve multiple devices or users beyond ordinary personal use
  • Using the plan for illegal activity of any kind, in any jurisdiction
  • Automated, scripted or bot-driven data traffic that is not the result of ordinary human use of the device
  • Any use intended to circumvent this policy or the pricing structure of our plans, such as bulk-buying plans to build unauthorised infrastructure

What happens if this policy is not followed

If we or our network partners identify usage that falls outside this policy, we may take steps that can include reducing the speed of the affected eSIM, suspending the plan, or in serious or repeated cases, closing the associated account. Where practical, we will try to make contact first, but some network-level measures may be applied automatically by our partners to protect the wider network.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Fair Usage Policy from time to time, for example if a network partner changes how it manages capacity. Where we make a material change, we will update this page, and the current version is the one that applies to plans purchased from that point onward.

Questions

If you are unsure whether your planned use fits within this policy, or you have questions about how an unlimited plan works at a specific destination, contact us at hello@one-sim.io before you buy. You can also review our Terms and Conditions for the wider terms that apply to your purchase.
